Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been arrested by police. He was taken into custody on Saturday from Gundu in Bhaktapur, according to police officials. An arrest warrant was issued and served to him at the time of detention.
The arrest follows a Cabinet decision made on Friday, shortly after the formation of the new government, to implement the report prepared by a probe commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki.
The commission, formed to investigate the Gen Z protests, had recommended a criminal investigation against Oli. Based on the report submitted on Chaitra 24, the Cabinet decided to proceed with legal action against Oli and the then Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
The commission held them responsible for the shooting incident during the protests on Bhadra 23 and 24 in Baneshwor, Kathmandu, where teenagers were fired upon. The incident reportedly resulted in the deaths of 76 people. (news from Rato Pati online )
